Behind the Scenes
As promised here are some behind the scenes pictures from the set of our current project.
|
This one is of me with thanks to Sundiata who took it. I just like the way it looks. The chair I'm resting my left hand on is an old wheelchair that we're using to fake our dolly shots. It let's us get nice smooth motion with the camera and follow the action when we need to. It's also a lot more portable than a full dolly rig with the tracks. We also have another trick piece of equipment that we're hoping will help us fake short range crane and steady cam shots.
More on that after we get it working. |
|
Jessica is learning to run the sound equipment and boom mike. Sundiata says she's a natural. Note the "Revelations" poster we used for set dressing in the first basement scene. We don't actually have a basement, but we were able make it look to the camera like we did. |
|
Here is a rare shot of me actually directing. This was during a very short scene we shot in the kitchen with Doug and Talia.Talia was not having as hard a time as the picture makes it look like she was having. |
The blankets on the floor are not in the shot. They are to stop the sound echo.
|
Check out those surface mounted lights on the wall behind Gina.
Also we used some large gels to tint and reduce the intensity of the exterior light coming though the window to help it match the internal lights.
|
Here is a shot of our rig and video monitor.
This equipment and lights you see in the shot above all belong to Sundiata.
We've been really lucky to team up with him. |
Meanwhile, in other news, "Revelations" sadly did not win the ATOM film awards, but that's okay,
we're still proud.

11thingsIlearned.com
Eleven things I learned dot com is the web site for the book that my very good friend Tim Young is having published. The book itself is called "11 Things I learned, While traveling in Outer Space" and was written and illustrated by Tim. This will hopefully be the bright beginning of a long and prosperous career for him as a writer and illustrator of children's books. Tim has been working on this for a very long time and there are no words to express my joy at finally seeing this come to fruition for him.

NEWS and LINKS
This past weekend we shot two scenes for our new project. The working title we have given the project is "The Man in Charge" but Gina and I are both convinced that we need to change that.
It was exciting and I felt that we passed a milestone of sorts and that the end is in sight. Everyone is pretty pleased with what we are doing and we're looking forward to seeing it ourselves. Even if we never formally release it, we're learning a great deal and, for us, that is what this little project was all about. Working with Sundiata who has stepped up as our DP and editor, has been great.
I was planning to shoot again this weekend but I'm encountering a lot of resistance on that front and to be fair I may have to log some hours in the office myself so we may push back the rest of the shoots for awhile.
I promise I'll post some pictures soon.
Meanwhile:
Go vote for "Star Wars: Revelations" here.

I can hear you now, "We'd love to help you out . . . but registration is required and whine, whimper, sniff."
Ladies and Gentlemen let me introduce you to "mailinator.com".
From the site:
Want to know how to create an account at Mailinator™ ? Just send email to it.
You don't sign-up. You don't have to tell Mailinator you're coming. Think of something@mailinator.com (where something is really "anything at all") whenever you need it. Give it out. Type it into webforms. Post it on billboards.
After all that - THEN go there and check that mailbox.
Also go check out Sundiata's website "Future Incite" here.

I'll have a link button to this next month.

The return of
"Star Wars: Revelations"
Big News! I confess I had heard that this was going to happen but I held off saying anything until it was official.
"Revelations" has been admitted into
AtomFilms(
R) and Lucasfilm Fan Film Movie Challenge this year. They've just announced it has made it in as a finalist. That means there is a chance that, if it wins, it will air on Spike TV.
For us this is a really big deal. It's like a re-release of "Revelations" and we are very happy about that.
A sincere congratulations to Shane and all the folks who worked with us on this.
Great stuff!
We could not be prouder.

Fencing
No, not the fun kind. This Saturday a young woman lost control of her car and ran down the fence in our front / side yard. Fortunately no one was hurt and everything looks like it will be okay, in the long run. Her father came by and he seems very reasonable and it looks like we'll be able to work things out between us. He was a bit embarrassed, but I assured him that I had also raised teenagers and that, as no one had been hurt, I was not looking to make more of it than it was.
So . . . there it is.
I blurred out the tag so as not to further embarrass anyone.
Meanwhile in other news check out this bit of Treknology.

Update
Well Gina and I had a good time at the premiere of "Dark Operations". Here are is a quick picture of us from the party afterwards.
(Special thanks to Brian Yen for this shot and a few others.)
There was no time to rest however as we had to head down to MD for another shoot on "Trenches".
It was a long day, but I think we got some really good shots and it was fun to work with Shane and Jack and Spat and all the old "Revelations" people again. As I say it was a long day but Gina and I both felt that we got something done and that was nice.
On the way home we had a flat tire but I managed to use a can of Fix-a-flat that I keep in the car to get us on the road again. After pulling off a few times both to fill up the tire a little more and for a short cat nap we got home with out incident.
