for resignations. About time!

Oh and also due to a declining approval rating for the current administration,
John Ashcroft held a press conference to say that "Credible intelligence ... indicates
that al-Qaeda intends to attack the United States within the next few months."
  No. Really? Is that so?
   . . .
What do we pay this guy

  RANTING!
  Remember that
scene in "A League of Their Own" when Tom Hanks yells at one of the players and
she start crying and he goes off on rant about the fact that "There's no Crying
in baseball!"
Well let me just say . . . There is no amnesty for war
crimes. There's no amnesty for crimes! If you go to war and your troops commit
war crimes; everyone involved is accountable. If civilian contractors (mercenaries
or off duty, out of uniform military personnel) that you are paying commit
war crimes, against the people in the country you are occupying, while they
are in your custody, you are responsible! Accountability
goes all the way up the chain of command. If you are in charge, you are responsible.
There are no excuses. No blanket edicts preventing prosecution after the
fact. THERE'S NO AMNESTY FOR WAR CRIMES!
  Also let me say to
the good folks on the left who are trying to get the word out on what is going
on around here; this situation is bad enough that you don't need to stoop to exaggerations,
or petty nitpicking. I don't care who fell off of their bike! I don't
care about the weather in Texas over the past month! That's not important.
I care about the fact that this country is being raped and robbed in plain
sight. I care about egregious Geneva Convention violations being carried out in
our name. I care about the rampant lies and the belligerent posturing at the cost
of human lives and international goodwill. I care about the blatant desecration
of basic human rights, the barefaced erosion of the American Constitution and
the reversal of all the progress we've made over the past two hundred and twenty
plus years. I care about the big issues. Focus here people, stay on topic,
this is important.

  Library of Alexandria . . . found?
  I've often
wondered what history would have been like had the Library
of Alexandria not been lost. How much further along would we be both
technologically and philosophically had this one institution and its records survived?
For instance we could have avoided the dark ages altogether.
  Great
Balls of Lightning!
  A patently ridiculous
explanation is put forth for the recent UFO sighting in Mexico. Among
the more glaring holes in this explanation are the questions: Why would there
be so many of this very rare phenomenon flying in formation and in one place?
How is it they were moving at such high speeds? Why would they only be visible
in the infrared spectrum? I mean come on, is this the best cover story they could
come up with? This is right up there with the "it was Venus being magnified by
swamp gas" explanation.
  Nano test tubes.
  Whoa! More speedy
progress on the Nano science front. Interesting that they are predicting
a ten to twenty year window before the implementation of this technology reaches
the point of practicality. I think they may find that ten years is a much longer
span of time than it used to be; at least when it comes to putting this kind of
progress to use.

 Untitled
First let me say Happy Birthday Trystan! Stop by
and see your mom one of these days.
  Now
back to our regularly scheduled outrage and madness.
  In the increasingly
surreal world of politics US Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld had the unmitigated
audacity to say that we couldn't release the latest pictures of Iraqi prisoner
abuse by US forces because that would be . . .(wait for it) . . . a
violation of the Geneva Convention.
    |
What? What the fuck did you just say? You want to invoke the Geneva
Convention . . . NOW? Are you out of your motherfucking
mind? Where was your respect for the Geneva Convention when this was all going
on? Of all the miserable, cowardly . . . what country is this? Really?
Also, let me be clear about this, I do not believe that this is an
isolated incident or the work of a few unsupervised guards. You can all reach
your own conclusions. For my part though, I believe this was done on orders from
the top and even if that can never be proven, I believe the people at the top
should be held responsible in any case.

   | Then
there is the beheading of a human being, video taped, and released on the Internet.
That's just great! Really, just fucking wonderful. I am so proud to
be a member of the human race today.
Okay so what would I do? I mean I'm
outraged, but given the chance to be in charge, what would I do to make things
right? Here is my list of what to do to fix the current situation.
  1.
Impeach and arrest the current administration.
  2. Let those who
are then compelled to step into power do so on the condition that they are not
to run for public office again until 2012.
  3. Go to the United Nations,
pay any unpaid dues, and apologize for the criminal actions of the current administration.
Ask them to step in and mitigate the situation in Iraq. Recommend that wherever
possible we deploy Muslim Arab forces, from member countries willing to help,
to interface directly with the Iraqi population and restrict US forces to secure
areas to help restore infrastructure.
  4. Issue an apology to the world
and reaffirm our commitment to the Geneva Convention, the rule of international
law, and dedicate our forces solely to defense and humanitarian relief efforts
for the next five years.
  5. Review and where necessary repeal all laws,
edicts, and pardons passed by the current administration.
  6. Seize globally
the resources of all private companies and individuals who have profited through
the illegal actions of this administration and use the money to mitigate the current
deficit and to fund the aforementioned humanitarian relief efforts.
  7.
Use our forces in Afghanistan to shut down the drug trade and help the provisional
government consolidate power, improve security, and educate the population.
  8.
Restore the Miranda rights of all US detainees wherever they may be held.
  9.
Restore the rights and privileges of all personnel currently serving in the US
armed forces. There you go, it's just a start, I'm just a lone madman,
but that's what I would do. I fully expect to be arrested
at any moment.
     |
 Meanwhile
in
the skies over Mexico, a pilot on a routine anti-drug trafficking patrol
got some footage, via his infrared equipment, of otherwise invisible unidentified
objects in the sky, very strange stuff, to be sure. However, we must resist the
impulse to indulge in wild, unfounded, speculation about this. We must not simply
leap to any ridiculous wild conclusions that these cloaked vessels were of in
any way of extraterrestrial origin. All we know is that these objects, which
clearly changed course, and showed up partially on radar, clearly in infrared,
and not at all to the naked eye, were in the sky over Mexico and no one can account
for them. That's all we know. So, let's not get carried away with it.
For the record though, if they are extraterrestrials, and on the off chance
they have Internet access, and are reading this, let me just say . . . Get
me the hell out of here.

  New zinc-manganese-tellurium crystals promise
more efficient solar power.
Space.com has an article on it
here.
As an aside I've decided to leave the political commentary to others who
have both, a more thorough understanding of the issues involved, and the ability
to express themselves without just losing their tempers, ranting, raving, foaming
at the mouth, and demanding that the entire current administration should simply
be arrested for Treason, War Crimes,
and Subversion - RIGHT NOW!!!

A few quotes as food for thought today
  "A
competent leader can get efficient service from poor troops, while on the
contrary an incapable leader can demoralize the best of troops." - General
of the Armies John J. Pershing "Leadership
is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without
one, be without the strategy." - Norman Schwarzkopf -
quote from winningculture.com by Deb Fortune
  "Throughout our country
and world, when leading by example, the standards of integrity are set by our
leaders." - Tony Robbins
"We would have all such offenders so cut
off: and we give express charge, that in our marches through the country, there
be nothing compelled from the villages, nothing taken but paid for, none of the
French upbraided or abused in disdainful language; for when lenity and cruelty
play for a kingdom, the gentler gamester is the soonest winner." - King Henry
KING HENRY V ACT III SCENE VI
  "Humaneness and justice are
the means by which to govern properly." - Sun Tzu, The Art of War
  "Leadership
is a matter of intelligence, trustworthiness, humaneness, courage, and sternness
. . . A general should have these five virtues . . . Reliance on intelligence
alone results in rebelliousness. Exercise of humaneness alone results in weakness.
Fixation on trust results in folly. Dependence on the strength of courage
results in violence. Excessive sternness in command results in cruelty. When
one has all five virtues together, each appropriate to its function, then one
can be a military leader." - Sun Tzu, The Art of War
  "It takes
a great deal of character strength to apologize quickly out of one's heart rather
than out of pity. A person must possess himself and have a deep sense of security
in fundamental principles and values in order to genuinely apologize." -
Stephen R. Covey

  Living
in a Terrorist State!
I'm still here I just don't know what
to say. The news these days just keeps going from bad to worse. We are
now living in an information slave state. We no longer have government of the
people, by the people, and for the people; we now have a government of the corporate,
for the rich, and by the criminal. We have past the point of needing a mere investigation
or some paltry change in policy; we need a revolution. Our government continues
to pursue its current course of environmental devastation, plutocratic elitism,
corporate fascism, personal intimidation, rampant censorship, illegal detention,
blatant war crimes, human rights violations, and out and out treason - at the
very highest levels; and yet no one seems willing or able to stand up and do anything
about it. The only voice of reason I can even hear crying in the wilderness
is Air
America and even they seem to be compelled to disguise their criticisms
behind a veil of sarcastic humor that too often seems inappropriate to the issues
they are desperately trying to address. Still I give them credit for trying to
do anything. The constitution of the United States is being subverted, our
most basic civil rights are being systematically eroded, and any attempt at any
legal recourse or even reasonable requests for some kind of explanation are being
blocked by legal doublespeak, semantic hairsplitting, and ridiculous sophistic
arguments that wouldn't satisfy a bright seven year old. This is not America anymore.
All I can think to do is register my outrage here. To try and speak out against
what I see happening. Let it be known that the belligerent global aggression of
the current administration is not an aggression of the American people.
