PJGARSI Retraction

It turns out the PJGARSI awarded earlier this month to William Shatner was in fact a mistake. Mr. Shatner was, it turns out, filming a new reality show about a Hollywood crew filming a really terrible Science Fiction movie in a small town. Well you got us Bill, well done.

Cheers to SpaceShipOne!

Well done! Good job! Very exciting stuff!

We stare..."

Kerry vs. Bush Tonight.

Have you seen the rules (.pdf format) for this thing? You can't really call it a debate. I'm not sure what to call it. Whatever, here's hoping the Kerry comes out swinging and mops the floor with Bush. I don't buy into the rhetoric of those pundits who say that big John mustn't look like he's picking on poor defenseless George. Remember the words of General George S. Patton Jr.: "Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser." I don't agree with everything he ever did, or said, but he hit the nail on the head when he said that. Speaking of Patton, try to imagine what he would have said about our current war on "Terror" and our current situation in Iraq. I won't speculate for you here, just think about it for a moment.
In any case Senator Kerry needs to keep this in mind tonight. He needs to approach this "debate" as a key battle in his campaign for the Presidency. He must demonstrate clear, concise leadership. Not stubborn, belligerent posturing, but real leadership. A clear vision for establishing our goals in Iraq, providing our troops the means to achieve them, and getting them the hell out of there without delay. I believe he should call for a full investigation of the orders and polices that led to the human rights violations in both Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay. Not an investigation of the men on the ground, but of the current staff at the White House and Pentagon. Make it clear that no one will be exempted from investigation and that, for those found guilty, no pardons will be granted. This is Kerry's big chance to show us, to remind us, what this country stands for.
More on this tomorrow.

Pirates!

Picture from this past weekend at the MD Renaissance Festival where Shane took first place in the costume contest. Thanks to Sarah for the picture.
From Left to right Shane, Sarah, Gina, Me, and Brian.

Penn. Rennaisance Faire ad clarification.

This is me!

This looks like me (a little) but is not me.

Some friends saw this ad on a billboard and were a little freaked out and thought it really was me.
It's not.
I hear good things about the Penn. Renaissance Festival. I haven't been to that one in years but maybe it's time to hit it again. It's a cool ad anyway. I linked back to the source just to keep from getting in trouble.

Happy Birthday!!!
Times 3

September 23rd a day that will live in . . . notoriety!

Happy Birthday to my good friend Patrick F.
To Thursday nights!
"Haberdashery!"
"Are you still here?"
"These are the worst powers ever, 'Predict the Past?' What the hell was I thinking?"
Movies . . . and more Movies!
. . . and other episodes of making me spontaneously spurt soda out of my nose.

Happy Birthday to another good friend Steve L.
Shore Leave! Farpoint! Shore Leave! Farpoint!
Lost in Baltimore! Sushi at Matsori! Revelations!
The caves! Shore Leave! Farpoint! . . .
To rare Scotch whisky and conversations almost no one else can follow.
See you this weekend.
;-)

And last, but by no means least,
Happy First Birthday to my grandson Matthew!

"Don't touch that!"
"Stay out of the Dog Water?"
"Don't put that in your mouth!"
"Be nice to the cat!"
Etc.
Everyday - another thrilling adventure!

If I've missed anyone else, Happy Birthday to you as well.
And so as Tiny Tim never observered "Happy Birthday, Everyone!"

This months PJGARSI goes to William Shatner.
Well, it was just a matter of time, wasn't it?

Mr. Shatner's latest project: "Invasion Iowa."
A low budget, sci-fi movie he wrote with "Star Trek" co-star Leonard Nimoy.

Uh, huh! Sounds great Bill.

Somewhere that "No tears for Caesar" rap from the end of 'Free Enterprise' is playing quietly in the background.

What he said . . .

Confused by conflicting polls? Lost to despair over the willful, belligerent ignorance of our administration and some of your neighbors? Frustrated? Uncertain what to do?
Relax my friends. "Hope is on the way!"
Michael Moore sums it up right here.

No matter what you think of Mister Moore, his views and his movies, when any man speaks this much truth, only a fool would fail to listen.

Lakewood Renaissance Fair 2004

Here are some pictures from this past weekend.

Matthew as the Court Jester of the Fair.
We entered the boy in the costume contest
and while he didn't win he was a big hit and a natural on stage.

Gina as Cobweb and in one of the many dresses she has made.

Met up with a few friends on both day. Satuday was rainy and a bit of a washout but Sunday the fair was larger than I have ever seen it and more than made up for it.
A fine time was had by all.

Quote of the day

Our quote of the day comes from Xoverboard.

"Folks, this isn't even an discussion. Webloggers telling the mainstream media about being partisan and non-objective is like John Wayne Gacy telling Ronald McDonald how to be a clown."

. . . .

Wow! I'm stealing that one.

Bob Harris on This Modern World

Every once in a while, someone else says exactly the right thing, at exactly the right
time. You read it and you think 'that's exactly the point I wish I had made.'
This is such a case.
Go read this right now.
http://www.thismodernworld.com/weblog/mtarchives/week_2004_09_12.html#001749

Meanwhile, here in what was once the actual "land of the free and the home of the brave" we are living in nothing less than a totalitarian, fascist, police state. A thinly veiled theocracy that perverts even the religious principals it claims to believe in. Our media is strictly controlled. Our most fundamental rights and freedoms have been subverted. The government-corporate complex is in control and brooks no dissent. Anyone even suspected of taking a stand against them can be sanctioned, fired, arrested, searched, finger printed, photographed, detained illegally, and even shipped off to 'the gulag gitmo' on nothing more than the orders of our unelected king. Agencies originally created for our protection are now used to threaten and intimidate us. Our children are ordered to participate in an illegal war. War crimes and crimes against humanity are committed in our name no one in authority is held accountable.

I'm speaking now to the Bush supporters among you. What are you fighting for? Think back for a moment, what were those precious principals that made you proud to be an American? What of Liberty, Individual Freedom, Free speech, Religious Freedom, a Free Press, and the other precepts of documents like the Bill of Rights and The Declaration on Independence? What do we owe to all of those who have fought and died for our freedoms over the turbulent history of this country?

If we don't really win this election, if we don't defeat the current administration, I don't believe there will be any more real elections in this country.

The only hope we have is if all truly loyal Americans, and anyone who cares for this country at all, whatever your previous affiliations, comes out and votes Democrat across the board this election. Let's send a message to the Republicans that we won't stand for this, that we still hold freedom dear, that we won't stand for a lying corporate controlled press and that we still believe in Life, Liberty and Justice for all.

As we do this let us also make it clear to the Democrats that we hold the true power and that we will be watching.

Feeling much better.

Finally, at long suffering last, I had the procedure I have desperately needed done, yesterday. In a stunning break with the way my recent luck has been running it went really well. What was supposed to be the first part of a two or three step procedure was reduced to just one primary visit, completed yesterday, and a couple of follow ups with my regular dentist. Thanks to those who have supported and put up with me while I was sick. Gina of course looked after me at home and one other person stepped forward with some very timely and much appreciated financial support just when we needed it. I don't think the person in question reads this and I don't want to embarrass them by publishing their name here, but they know who they are and I just want to say one more time, thank you.
