The A'Kweth
By Segalt of Vulcan

What of beauty in the sand
The song of mountains proud
The whispering of hidden life
That shrink from voices loud

Beneath the sleeping sands
The hidden ones remain
Through the solid rock and stone
Against the core they strain

Immortal to our minds
They move, tunnel and mine
They speak to us as quiet echoes
And hide away from time

Once in ages long now past
Two travelers chance to meet
They spoke briefly in silent words
And never again chanced to greet

But both were changed forever
By this chance passing in the night
And as they went their separate ways
Each saw with a new inner light

All who heard, were changed
Each came to know these new others
And with no bond of tribe or blood
All who dwell here became, nonetheless brothers
